Texas Lacks Qualified Offensive Assistance for Play-Calling

AUSTIN — Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is currently under scrutiny following back-to-back losses to unranked teams. The evaluation process has raised questions about the depth of his offensive staff. Sarkisian stated, “I don’t take it personally evaluating myself — I’m probably harder on myself than anybody and I’ll evaluate this game the same way.” Despite this reassurance, Texas has faced challenges in maintaining its early-season success, dropping from a No. 1 ranking after a 4-2 start.
The analysis reveals that Sarkisian lacks viable candidates within his coaching staff to assume play-calling responsibilities. Offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, while having a history with Sarkisian, lacks play-calling experience, a sentiment echoed among other assistants like AJ Milwee and Mike Bimonte. None of the current staff members have the credentials or experience to provide an adequate alternative should Sarkisian decide to relinquish those duties.
