The Dallas Cowboys have initiated significant changes this week, beginning with the hiring of senior advisor Mike Pettine to support first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker. This transition continued on the field as the team opted to demote Donovan Ezeiruaku from his starting spot, where he had played every game this season and nine in the previous year. Ezeiruaku will be succeeded by Malachi Lawrence, selected in April as the team’s second first-round draft pick.
Although Lawrence faced challenges earlier this season, his performance improved notably in the recent loss against Tampa Bay, where he achieved his first career sack and registered a pass defensed. In contrast, Ezeiruaku has recorded only 0.5 sacks this season after a total of 2.0 last year. Coach Brian Schottenheimer had indicated last week that Lawrence would see increased playing time, making this lineup change somewhat unexpected.
