“Perhaps they have young children in their homes or no longer hunt. Others may have family members suffering illness or depression, whom they fear might attempt to end their own lives,” stated Father Casey Shobe, Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas, where one such event took place in the fall of 2025.
This initiative allows residents to anonymously surrender firearms they no longer wish to keep. The guns are dismantled and repurposed by skilled blacksmiths. On October 18, an upcoming event will be held at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., where participants can safely turn in unloaded firearms. After processing, they may receive gift cards as compensation.
Father Casey highlighted the deep significance of this process by referencing a biblical prophecy about peace.
