Mariah Wakefield, a resident of Denver, faced challenges in finding a suitable school for her adoptive daughter Jasiya, who needed more than what Denver Public Schools offered. After becoming Jasiya’s legal guardian in 2013 when the girl was four, Wakefield encountered personal difficulties, yet remained focused on securing a bright future for her daughter. With the assistance of ACE Scholarships, Wakefield successfully enrolled Jasiya in a school that catered to her unique abilities.
Now, Wakefield is sharing her story to promote the Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC), which offers taxpayers a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for contributions to eligible non-profit Scholarship Granting Organizations. As ACE initiates a campaign to raise awareness about this federal school choice initiative, Wakefield emphasizes the importance of alternatives in education and the potential benefits they hold for families and children in similar situations.
