A Mansfield couple’s trip to Arkansas for a homecoming celebration turned into a nightmare when James Parker was shot and killed on Thursday, October 15, at a gas station in Little Rock. The 74-year-old veteran, who was a dedicated husband and a member of his Arlington church, had prayed for safety just the night before at New Life Fellowship, according to Senior Pastor Maurice Pugh.
James and his wife Darlene had traveled back to his alma mater, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, when an altercation led to gunfire between two suspects while James was filling up at the gas station. Darlene, who had gone to pick up a prescription, became concerned when James didn’t return. Sadly, she was informed of his death shortly after approaching the police. Two suspects, 19-year-old Kevontae Wilburn and 25-year-old Braxton Flowers, have been arrested in connection with the incident. A memorial service for Parker is scheduled for October 31 in Little Rock, with another service to follow in Dallas.
