Researchers Aim To Secure Wireless Networks as AI Evolves

Dr. Imtiaz Karim, assistant professor of computer science at The University of Texas at Dallas, leads a research group focused on fortifying next-generation wireless networks against emerging threats, particularly those influenced by artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing. Recently, his team utilized an agentic security testbed for evaluating the resilience of these networks. Alongside Karim are doctoral students Fatema Tuj Johora, Mashroor Hasan Bhuiyan, Ramkrishna Saha, and Md Nahiyan Uddin.

Karim’s project, titled “Quantum-Ready and AI-Enabled by Design: Resilient and Deployable Next-Gen Cellular Networks,” has been funded by an award of $307,250 from the National Science Foundation as part of a larger $1.2 million collaborative effort with the University of South Florida and Purdue University. The team aims to integrate postquantum cryptography and AI while maintaining system security and user privacy.
