Dallas lands among 10 most affordable U.S. metros for living alone

Living alone can be financially challenging, but a new report identifies Dallas-Fort Worth as one of the 10 most affordable regions in the United States for this lifestyle. Analysts from Apartments.com revealed that North Texas renters allocate the seventh lowest percentage of their monthly income to single-bedroom rents among the 50 largest U.S. metros. Utilizing a common budgeting guideline of 30 percent, the study indicates that only 24 of these metros offer affordable options for solo living without exceeding this threshold.

The median annual income for renter households in the DFW area is recorded at $63,172, with typical one-bedroom rents averaging $1,348 monthly. Consequently, single renters in the area spend about 25.6 percent of their income on housing. Additionally, Austin was recognized as the most affordable city, with renters there spending 23.1 percent of their income on single-bedroom apartments. San Antonio also made the list at sixth place, with renters dedicating 25.4 percent of their earnings to rent. This study reflects broader shifts in the rental market, emphasizing the affordability of living alone in several Texas cities.
