In the AI-driven landscape, both small and large organizations are grappling with a critical issue: unauthorized access to sensitive data. A recent survey by Netwrix, based in Frisco, highlights that the issue looms particularly large for midsize firms, defined as those with 500 to 999 employees. The findings indicate that 40% of these organizations experienced unauthorized access to sensitive data within the last year, a stark contrast to the 27% seen in larger companies and just 18% in smaller firms.
Moreover, a staggering 80% of IT and security professionals in midsize organizations reported lacking a comprehensive view of sensitive data locations and access rights, while this figure is lower at 70% for small and large firms. Grady Summers, CEO of Netwrix, remarked that midsize organizations find themselves in a challenging position, caught between the complexity of larger entities and the resource limitations of smaller ones. The survey, conducted in April with over 2,300 IT professionals globally, further revealed that AI and automation exacerbate access issues, with organizations facing breaches reporting significant financial and reputational repercussions.
