A Dallas man, 56-year-old Emiliano Andrade Covarrubias, has died at the Rio Grande processing center in Laredo, prompting his family and local lawmakers to seek answers amid conflicting reports about his medical care.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Andrade Covarrubias was discovered unresponsive in his bed on Saturday morning. He had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and a heart condition, but the cause of death remains undetermined pending an autopsy. While DHS claims he was provided appropriate medical care, his family contests this assertion through a GoFundMe post. Congressman Henry Cuellar, who represents Laredo, has expressed the need for transparency, noting that he has requested both medical records and surveillance footage to clarify the circumstances surrounding Andrade Covarrubias’s treatment.
