The New York Giants are making a notable shift at the quarterback position, deciding to bench Jameis Winston in favor of J.J. McCarthy for their upcoming game against the Houston Texans, as reported by ESPN.
This decision comes less than a month after the Giants acquired McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings. The young quarterback, 23, showcased his potential during a fourth-quarter performance where he amassed 243 passing yards against the New Orleans Saints. Despite McCarthy’s earlier interception, he rallied the team, leading to three scoring drives and bringing the score to a competitive 34-27.
Winston, who started the season with a record of 2-1-1, had a challenging outing against the Saints, throwing two interceptions. The Giants hope that McCarthy will energize both their offense and running game as they aim for a potential playoff berth in a competitive NFC East.
