During a recent appearance on the New Heights podcast, Mike Tomlin, former head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, discussed why he refrains from mentioning a certain NFL player by name. This decision is rooted in his allegiance to the Steelers and the intense competition he feels within the division.
Specifically, Tomlin referenced Derrick Henry, who plays for the Baltimore Ravens, a team that rivals the Steelers. He explained that before Henry entered the division, he had no issue acknowledging him. However, Tomlin stated, “Once he got into the division, it’s like Ohio State and Michigan. I hadn’t said that dude’s name, I can’t say his name.” This approach was meant to underscore the significance of Henry’s threats within their rivalry. His broadcast partner, Maria Taylor, noted that Tomlin’s refusal to name Henry stems from a deep respect for the player.
