The Plano Independent School District (ISD) will contribute up to $250 million towards the funding of a proposed arena for the Dallas Stars located at The Shops at Willow Bend site. The school board approved the collaboration over the summer, followed by approval from the Plano City Council on Monday night. This partnership enables Plano ISD to utilize tax revenue aimed at enhancing the local tax base, keeping some of the funds that would typically go to the state.
Additionally, the agreement grants the school district the capability to host graduation ceremonies and various events at the city-owned venue. Mayor John Muns expressed the significance of holding high school graduations within the city, noting they are currently hosted at an alternative location. Meanwhile, residents will vote on Proposition A during early voting starting Monday, which involves funding the multi-purpose arena through venue taxes, while concerns regarding the project and its impacts on local infrastructure have been raised by the Stop the Stars Arena PAC.
