CPRIT Scholar Aims To Open New Paths in Cancer Treatment

Dr. Alexander Adibekian has recently joined The University of Texas at Dallas as a new professor within the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, where he also holds the title of Distinguished Chair in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His research is dedicated to the examination of how small molecules interact with proteins in living cancer cells, potentially leading to novel cancer therapies.

With backing from a $3.5 million grant from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), Adibekian is part of a significant initiative aimed at fostering cancer research within the state. His innovative work utilizes mass spectrometry and synthetic chemistry to identify drugs targeting critical proteins involved in cancer progression. Adibekian emphasizes the goal of discovering completely new drug candidates, specifically focusing on proteins that currently lack effective therapeutic options. His lab combines analytical tools to gain insights into cellular interactions, marking a promising advance in the battle against cancer.
